Our Story

Myself - Jade (centre): Mummy to 6 year old Golden Retriever Oscar and a human baby boy, Walter.

Kyle – AKA Uncle Kyle (Jade’s partner and Walter's Dad) – Kyle is the brains behind Barker’s Retreat, our family run business, and does the important, thankless work behind the scenes.

We are a family run business that began in 2018 with pack walking. I absolutely loved it, and owners frequently asked me to look after their dogs after their walks, taking them back to my home while they were busy. I then realized I loved spending that time with them, which is how Barker's Retreat daycare started. After about 2 years of pack walking alongside my part-time job, I took the plunge to leave my job and start a dog daycare from scratch. That brings us to where we are today.

We have all grown up around dogs and gone on to own our own dogs as adults, from Collies to Staffies, Golden Retrievers to Jack Russells, including rescues of all ages. With all of our experience put together, you can rest assured your beloved family member will be well looked after and given lots of attention. From cuddles on the sofa to playing their favorite game, we focus on dog socialisation in a loving environment. We love all shapes and sizes; no breed or age is discriminated.

Safety

Our unit, formerly a Securicor vault, features an impenetrable fence surrounding the entire perimeter, ensuring your dog’s safety as they enjoy our dog daycare. To meet our higher licensing standards, we have installed double gated areas in various locations, both inside and outside, providing a secure environment for dog socialisation without compromising their freedom.

As a family run business, we prioritize the well-being of every dog in our care. Please note that we do not accept any unneutered dogs over the age of 1 year old unless they are medically exempt.
