Our Story

Myself - Jade (centre): Mummy to 6 year old Golden Retriever Oscar and a human baby boy Walter.

Catherine (left) - AKA Nanny Catherine, Mum to Jade and older sister Vannessa. Mummy to 9 year old rescue dog Pippa aka princess Pip.

Moira (right) - Auntie Moira, Mummy to 4 year old Jack Russell Bentley and mum to 2 human boys, Jamie and Scott.

Kyle – AKA Uncle Kyle (Jade’s partner and Walters Dad) – Kyle is the brains behind Barker’s Retreat and does the important, thankless work behind the scenes.

We are a family run business beginning in 2018 pack walking. I absolutely loved it and owners frequently asked for me to look after their dog after their walks, taking them back to my home whilst they were busy. I then realised I loved spending that time with them, that’s how Barker's Retreat daycare started. After about 2 years of pack walking along side my part time job, I took the plunge to leave my job and start a daycare from scratch. That brings us to where we are today.

We have all grown up around dogs and gone onto owning our own dogs as adults from Collies to Staffies, Golden Retrievers to Jack Russell's, including rescues of all ages. With all of our experience put together, you can be rest assured your beloved family member will be well looked after and given lots of attention. From cuddles on the sofa, to playing their favourite game. We love all shapes and sizes, no breed or age is discriminated.

Socialisation

Doggy daycare is amazing for your dogs socialisation skills. It teaches them manners, confidence, and simply the correct way to interact with other dogs with different temperaments. This really benefits outside of daycare on walks, as it often encourages calmer behaviour when approaching other dogs.

Relieve Separation Anxiety

This is such a big part of our dogs lives now and was exacerbated during lockdown when dogs weren't given the opportunity to socialise as they should. Daycare provides an safe environment where dogs can be relaxed and happy away from their owners, which is so important for their wellbeing. It also means your dog will get used to being left for a longer period of time as they are more confident being away from their owners.

Peace of Mind

You can be relaxed and at ease during the daytime, knowing your dog is having the best of time at Barker's Retreat! We take multiple photos/ videos throughout the day and upload to our Instagram page (@barkers_retreat) as it is so important to us that you can see the joy your dog is having!

We are also contactable throughout their stay via WhatsApp for any updates you would like, just to give you that little extra piece of mind.

Safety

Our unit was once a Securicor vault, so we have an impenetrable fence around the entire perimeter! In order to meet our higher licensing standards, we have also installed double gated areas in multiple locations inside and outside to give your dog the freedom without compromising their safety.

We do not accept any dogs over the age of 1 year old unneutered unless medically exempt.
